NEIM History

Winter 2002 – Parent group began brainstorming alternative preschool methodologies. Montessori fit our group the best.

Oct 2004 – Opened doors for Children’s House to seven students in a rural school (North Winneshiek) with a spare room! Northeast Iowa Montessori (NEIM) was formed!

Sept 2006 – NEIM moved to the city of Decorah. Our enrollment doubled.

Sept 2008 – Another move to a different location in the city of Decorah.

Sept 2010 – Moved to 418 W. Water St, Decorah, IA.

Dec 2014 – NEIM purchased the building! We now have a permanent residence.

Fall 2020 – Expanded Elementary Program to include the upper elementary ages 9-12 (formerly lower elementary ages 6-9 were served). This expanded program was almost to capacity before the first semester began.

Aug 2023 – Purchased a new building with more room to grow! Needed a few updates to make it the right space for our students.

Jan 2024 – Moved into our new building at 604 South Ave, Decorah, IA!
